Scope
This article will take you through the process of publishing the PowerBi Reports to a PowerBI Workspace in Office 365.
Prerequisites
- Each user that will need to access the reports will need a PowerBI Pro licence, or an O365 licence that includes this.
- At least Version 3.0 of the Wavenet Power BI Reports.
Setup
- Open the Wavenet PowerBI Reporting template as described in this article.
- Save the PowerBI Reports template once the data has loaded as a *.pbix file. You can do this by click "File --> Save as" in PowerBI Desktop.
- Click the "File" menu again and then click on "Publish".
- Click on "Publish to Power BI".
- Select the workspace that you'd like to publish the Wavenet PowerBI Reports to. Further reading on PowerBI workspaces can be found here.
NB: PowerBI Desktop may ask you at this point to authenticate to Office 365, please use your usual credentials for this.
- PowerBI will now publish the Wavenet report templates and dataset connections to PowerBI online.
Once it has finished, it will show a success confirmation.
- Next move to PowerBI Online. A quick link is here.
- Locate the workspace in PowerBI Online that you have published the reports to. The screen grab below shows the reports published to "My Workspace".
- We now have to modify some parameters so that the data can be refreshed from Wavenet's REST API. Click on setting for the Dataset as shown in the screen grab below.
- Expand "Data Source Credentials" as shown below and click on each "Edit Credentials" link.
- Make sure each "Edit Credentials" settings match below. Click "Sign in" to dismiss the box. Ignore the warning that credentials aren't validated.
- Navigate back to the workspace that you uploaded the Wavenet PowerBI reports to and then click the link as shown below to load the reports.
And the reports will display.
- Each report template is displayed down the left hand side, instead of in tabs along the bottom like in PowerBI Desktop. Other than this, the reports will work as they do in PowerBI Desktop.
Setting up an automatic data refresh schedule.
- Navigate to the workspace in PowerBI online where the Wavenet Reporting templates were uploaded to from PowerBI Desktop.
- Locate the dataset and click on the "Schedule Refresh" button as shown below.
- Expand the "Scheduled Refresh" section,
- Toggle the "Keep your data up to date" slider to "on" and set the required settings. Once complete, click the "Apply" button.
