4G Dongle Usage
We'd like to share with all 4G Dongle users some advice on
best practice and acceptable usage of the service.
We would like you not to run out of data.
4G Dongles are intended to enable staff the facility to keep in
touch with the business with some light data usage services, Including:
- Live
Salesforce use.
- Sending
and Receiving emails.
- Internet
searches.
The dongles have been deployed for work purposes only (not for travel) and not
for any high data volume services. Explicitly, this excludes the use of:
- Any
video streaming services such as iPlayer, Youtube and Netflix
- Any
music streaming services such as iTunes and Spotify
Even if they are work related please avoid downloading any
large files, such as webinars or software while connected to the 4G/3G
network. Please save these for when you are connected to a WiFi source or
are in the office and remember to remove your 4G dongle at these time to avoid
inadvertently using it.
Top Tips
- Close any open or unnecessary Outlook calendars, these all regularly update and will consume data quickly. As a result this will also speed up Outlook.
- Write any emails you can ‘offline’ and select send. They will sit in your outbox and you can then connect, send and unplug your dongle or mobile phone if tethering.
- Please don’t use your dongle in the office – Wi-Fi is available in all offices.
- To ensure you don’t use up your data, always unplug when you’re not using.
We welcome your support on this, if you have any questions
or concerns please get in touch.
